I provide a monthly teaching session in the form of a painting challenge, critique and video demonstration.

$20 will get you:

  • Access to the workshop area.
  • Group critique of your painting.
  • The chance for a full critique of your painting by me. (I won't be able to personally critique everyone's paintings but there will be enough similarity between them to illustrate key points that will be valuable to everyone.)
  • Online video explaining all the do's and don'ts.
  • The chance to win DVDs or an original painting by Richard Robinson.

The Challenge : Introduction to Still Life

This is workshop is an introduction to the art of still life painting. The following workshops will expand on this topic with progressively more advanced concepts. Every great artist has spent hours staring at the apple. Now it's your turn. :-)

This is not a live video workshop - I'm in New Zealand which makes it too tricky to organize our different time zones. So, it's good for everyone - time zones don't matter.

$20 per monthly workshop. Payment will be made through paypal or credit card. You can pay anytime and you will receive workshop access till 1 month after the date that you pay.

Joining Late

You can pay and join the workshop anytime although the sooner you join the sooner you can get started. The cutoff date for entries to the competition is 23rd April.

I'm sorry for your loss, Silke. I wanted to add that your painting of Sorolla's boy and horse is shaping up to be wonderful.

Sorry my friends, I can not finish my work in time. My 15 year old dog got too ill last week and I had to decide to let him go. I had started a work, but - well - could not go on for some days. Now I am back at the easel again and it helps to handle the grief. This is how far I got up to now. I will post, when I have finished. Good luck for everyone in the challenge.

By working with this painting I discovered how elegant every line is, how alive it feels an how difficult it is, to reproduce it. I am doing a 60x80 cm painting. Sorollas was about 200 x 250 cm - and he did it at the beach from life. It is unbelievable! And what else did I discover? the horse has no tail :-) Wet horse tails don't look so attractive, as they don't blow in the wind. So he ignored it for designs sake, I think.
