Hi - this is my first post, so here goes...

I am planning on doing an oil painting using all the colours of the rainbow and I am trying to work out what would be the best background colour for the rainbow colours to be painted on. I really want them to 'sing' as much as possible but with such a variety of colours in the rainbow I am not sure which one to use.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by background colour. I find an under layer of colour gives the painting and overall colour tone. So, red oxide will make for a warm painting. A blue paint will make it cool. Olive Green, or Raw Umber will be fairly neutral. If you want something nice and bright, then maybe Lemon Yellow.
