Summertime is the perfect season for art appreciation, you can visit museums if you want to escape the heat, or attend festivals if you like to sweat it out with an art-loving crowd. Whether your art of choice is visual, musical or theatrical – or all of the above – there are plenty of options to keep you super cool and cultured during the hot summer months. Keep in mind that if you’re traveling on vacation this summer, many of our stores are on the way to some of your favorite summer art festivals and destinations.

ASHEVILLE:

Named as one of “America’s Top 25 Arts Destinations” by AmericanStylemagazine, Asheville is a must-see spot in Western North Carolina. If you’re interested in 20th and 21st century American art, the Asheville Art Museum offers an exciting array of exhibitions and public programs based on its permanent collection. And if you appreciate regional arts and crafts, check out the Southern Highland Craft Guild. Their mission is: “Bringing together the crafts and craftspeople of the Southern Highlands for the benefit of shared resources, education, marketing and conservation.”

Summer in Minneapolis brings with it a wide array of fantastic art festivals. From small to large, you’re likely to find an art event happening almost every weekend. This summer Whole Foods Market is the proud artist breakfast sponsor at the popular Loring Park Art Festival.  We’re also featuring an ARTisan Market at theStone Arch Festival, showcasing a delicious variety of some of our favorite products from Minnesota vendors.

If you’re travelling to Omaha, don’t miss the 37th Annual Summer Arts Festival, featuring more than 135 of the nation’s finest painters, potters, jewelers, sculptors, non-stop music performances, family entertainment, children’s activities, and great food. Plus, Whole Foods Market will be there serving up fresh, delicious food at our café-style stop. Admission is free, and the festival runs from June 10 – 12 at the Gene Leahy Mall, and from June 10th to 15th on Farnam Street.

CHICAGO:

For three decades, Fountain Square Art Festival has won acclaim as one of the most prestigious art festivals in the Midwest. With more than 225 artists, it’s the largest and oldest juried fine arts fair on Chicago’s North Shore. If music is what you’re after, the Ravinia Festival is a must-do event.  Since 1904, it’s been a place for listening to music and making memories under the stars.

NEW YORK CITY:

The Bowery in New York City is a neighborhood once known as the hub for rock n’ roll (think CBGB, The Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, The Velvet Underground, The New York Dolls) and boasts some of the most creative chalk art in the city. It’s also the location of the New Museum, and home to many art galleries. Chelsea is home to many, many small art galleries and is home to the Rubin Art Museum, theMuseum at FIT and the Eyebeam Art and Technology Center. While you’re in the neighborhood, or if you’re looking for a classic artist’s haunt to stay at while you’re in the city, be sure to visit the Hotel Chelsea. It’s a world-renowned spot that’s played host to many famous and infamous artists, musicians, writers, philosophers and other eccentric characters.
