Hi guys,

I use water based oils and occasionally some areas of my painting start to get these little cracks.

It's usually in the green areas for whatever reason, but just found some in a red sail on  a boat I'm painting. I mix in linseed or popyseed oil with the paints, same amount in each color.

Does anyone else have any experience with this?

Thanks

David

Hi David

I use waterbased oils but don't mix in any oil and have not seen any craking in my paintings.  Sometimes I use the Artisan water mixable oils to improve the flow but again no cracking. Are the oils that you are using water mixable oils?

cheers

Kay

Hi Kay,

Yes, I've been using water based for quite a while now. Thanks for your reply. I recently tried a few paintings with no medium and so far

no cracks!

Fingers crossed

David

Hey Patrick,

It's cracking without any varnish, might just be the medium.

Thanks

Hi David..............

go here and read............  https://www.google.com/webhp?hl=en&tab=mw#hl=en&gs_nf=1&...

In oil painting their are rules that  apply.........Fat over Lean.................dor:))

Thanks, I've seen and practiced the fat over lean rule, but I must have gone too fat or too lean at some point!

I've abandoned the oil additives and just used the paint with no thinning, seems to work, thanks for your help.

David
