Hello to you all.   I'm in my late 60s and started close to 4 years ago.  Unlike many others, I never drew or painted as a kid, never took classes in it, didn't visit art galleries since I didn't know any art history or what to look at.   From time to time, I would see something that simply 'touched' me here and there.

I purchased Richard's color course plus the master's disk.  I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the content I need to remember.  I'm going slowly and am on my second time reading/noting and beginning to play with the assignments.  I see, as others have mentioned that I'll need to go through the material many times.

But I'm overwhelmed.   I will say that I have a wonderful teacher and I see where her instruction is overlapping but this color course is another level altogether.   I am progressing and do have some decent stuff that I've done.  I've worked with watercolour  [ not for me ], acrylic and now oils.  In truth, I love to play in charcoal too.

That's it for now.

Hi Tzipora! I too have this course and it can be tough to grasp it all at once so I've been having fun with it by doing one of two a day of each exercise, then stepping back for a couple days to absorb the information. Then when I return, I review the information once again until it gels in my mind. Then I go on to the next set of exercises. It seems to work. The biggest hurdle in any painting challenge is to get over the thoughts that your going to "mess it up". So I have been practicing mental control over my thoughts by telling myself "it's ok to mess it up, you can do it over again if you have to!" I have a tablet of canvas paper that I cut in half or quarters to do my lessons on so I don't feel like I'm wasting canvas. It seems to free me from getting stuck so I can let my creative brain take over.

Jeri, your note is wonderful.  Thank you.  I'll follow your advice.   What I've started to do is watch the videos and simply make a note here and there of what I need to know NOW and then proceed from there.  That is, I'm sifting through what I know, I need to know sooner rather than later.   It's helping.   I'm just starting the exercises too.

Thanks again !

Yeah! Good for you Tzipora! The exercises are a bit dreary but they do the job. I'm almost done with Chapter 5. Can't wait to do an actual painting from the landscape DVD!
