Well, I guess I am new...though I never thought of myself that way before.

I am a young enthusiastic artist. I took an interest in art when I was young, and have been developing the skill of making art ever since.

I mostly enjoy oil painting and working with graphite. Recently I was able to take a ceramics class at the local YMCA Art Center and fell in love with working on the wheel.

I take an oil painting class where I am privileged to paint with the well-educated artist Jane Albin.

Looking forward to meeting other artists and "swapping" pictures of art, stories, and critiques.

Welcome to workshop, Caleb. Richard is a wonderful teacher. You’ll enjoy it.

Thank you. I can already see the quality and talent of the artists on this site. I've been on another website similar to this and there was a lack of ability.

Hello Caleb,

Welcome to the site!  As others have related, Richard is a very creative artist and has some wonderful insights.  I believe, no matter what type of art you're involved in,  the more brains you can pick about their approach to that art will only enhance your progression as an artist.  And that's coming from a person that has just started in art!

You are a very talented person and I wish I had 1/10 of the ability you have!!  And because of that I thank you for your comments about my piece that I recently posted.  I really struggled getting the 'excitement' factor in the painting.  I appreciate your words especially after seeing that lovely piece you did of the sweet little girl.  You are wonderful in translating the human figure.

  Have a great time!  Cheryl

I enjoy rendering the human head in graphite, but struggle when I try to do the same in oil paint. Right now I am in the middle of a portrait painting of my painting instructor. I dont know whatever possessed me to do such a thing. Not only am I struggling how to figure out how to present a likeness in color, looks, and personality of this man, but I am also struggling with the fact that this is the one who teaches me how to paint. Needless to say this may have to hit the trash can for my teacher's benefit. I highly recommend to never attempt painting or drawing your art teacher unless you are confident in what you are doing!

Ha!  That's what I felt like when I tried painting my grandson Harrison.  As you can see I couldn't even bring myself to painting a front view of his face.  I think there's something sacred about the human figure.  I don't think I could even do a sketch like you are able to do.  You do beautiful work.  Your ability to transform those lines and curves into a beautiful person is magnificent.  I'm sure you'll do a great job. Don't be so hard on yourself!  I can tell you're a perfectionist. [post it when you're finished please]

Well...thank you for your compliments. We'll see about posting the finished product.... :)

Well Caleb, now you made us all curious to see what it looks like.......there is no hiding now...;o)....ehehehheh

Oh no!!! I'm embarrassed! I kinda gave up on it....

Aahahhah....well, now your are sitting in it! No, you don't have to share if you don't want to.....but if there is hope, maybe I can help. Do you have photos of the "victim" as well as the painting?

I could definitely use the help. I don't have pictures at this point. Both pics are at the art center where I do most of my painting. Because of my work schedule, I don't know when I will be able to get them. We're very busy.
