Hello everybody,

My name is Mikael. I'm from Denmark and based in Copenhagen and Cortona, Tuscany. I'm a professional portrait painter and love doing it. I'm very happy to be with you guys and I share your admiration with our common friend Richard. I do a bit of teaching myself, and love the way he does it. Very simple and very clear. Good to have someone like him to share his knowledge with the rest of us. Do visit my web site and feel free to comment (bad as good).

Best, Mikael

Hello Mikael,

You appear to be a master portrait painter and have had an amazing career. I've been doing each of Richards challenges for the last year and really have enjoyed the journey. Maybe you could collaborate with him to do a portrait series, that would be a wonderful direction for all of us. Welcome and BRAVO! on all the great portraits you've done.

Hello Denise,

Thanks for your kind words. I'm nor sure Richard would enjoy that I barge in on him on his site, but thanks for the trust.

All the best, M

Mikael, I love your artwork.

This site is open to all artist's.  In my opinion, it is nice to see a strong figure and portrait painter on this site to balance out the other genre's. :))

Have fun!!

Hi Stephen,

Three things maybe......keep them simple......observe the arial perspectiv also with them......and then the placement perspective: a person your own hight will have his eyes in the horizon when standing on the same altitude as you (also in the distance). When higher the his eyes are higher than the horizon, and when lower, further down.

Often a landscape welcomes a small dot of strong colour somewhere.....this will then be the place the eyes seek...the person will be the focus point...almost no matter how small the prson is.

Good painting, and keep your brushes wet...

Hi Mikael,

Is there any tips you may have for incorporating figures into landscapes? I eventually want to go on backpacking trips with plein air painting, so other hiking friends would be a big part of the painting's story. I've done mostly landscapes up to now and am just now starting to add people. There's a LOT to learn.

Thanks,

Steve
