Welcome Britt! You have certainly landed in an excellent site! I've been here since Feb approx and have learnt an awful lot. I have almost no experience... but you've got invaluable guides around!

Tha Master Painter might paint the darks first, but you have arrived when what is painted first are the lights!!!!!!! (Workshop 25)

This does seem to be a site that is focused on improvement!  I love idrawandpaint.com - and have several good friends there - and at first I took compliments seriously - until I looked at some of the other things people were commenting on - and began to understand that there was a lot of "people pleasing" going on.  I especially value the people who will be HONEST - and share what they are thinking about ways a piece could be improved!!

SO glad you are painting!

Yesterday I just finished a large painting. I love it that my husband said. I love it, but I think this is the focal point and I don't get what's happening here! We seem to have blinders on when we look at our own work, and need an honest person to point it out. Once he pointed it out, I was able to tighten it up and now I'm happier with it, too. That being said, advice is just advice. Some is helpful...usually my husband's is. And some is just preference in style or color. There are people out there who may give up if they feel overly criticized, and that would be tragic! Maybe we could give ourselves a number from 1 (only the good stuff) to 10 (good stuff and nit-picky, but still not abusive or condescending of course) on how much we can take. I feel I'm a 9! Not sure that people who only want to hear praise would give themselves a 1, tho ; )!

Very nice introduction....well put ( = I love your correlation of painting the darks first with the dark things in our lives coming first and beautiful things sometimes come out of them. Your work is lovely...and it's a pleasure to have you in the group! It really is a pretty great group of people, as well as painters!
