Hello everyone. I wonder if there are any thoughts you'd like to share to aid me in painting storm clouds. My plan is to have a sky that is all rain storm clouds. No backlighting.

I'm wondering about atmospheric perspective in this instance. I thought of doing the storm clouds in darks and lights using mixtures of cad red light, ultramarine and white. As I approach the horizon, should it be changing colours?

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Beverly, Hi.  storms/rain clouds are able to have far distance different colouring, as well as remaining the same as higher up in the sky, totally depending on the storm/weather that day.   Hope this does not confuse you at all.    Not sure if these are of interest but had them bookmarked and therefore listing them below. I do have more, but thought these may be useful(?).

skies, weather, clouds, storms

large storm photos,   very large images, when loaded, select arrow key up/down and then go to magnifying glass and use possibly not of use, but I thought so good had to give this to you.

If you really wish to locate the values/colours in photo minutely, then can view the blog and forum postings I have just done for an online colour picker for every piece of your photo. Shows you how to use it also.  May also be useful for you (?), but not sure.

Enjoy your painting, look forward to seeing when you have done, and also to comments from others.

Hi Jen: Thank you for your prompt reply. The links you included are amazing. That fellow is an incredible photographer. Very helpful.

I'm going to check out the blog info as well. I'm hoping to get started on this one soon.

Cheers

Bev
