I have no problem telling values if it is a drastic shift in value but, the ones that are one steps or two steps apart I have a huge problem with. Even squinting doesnt help.  Anyone else have that issue and know how to remedy it?

In RR Color Course he had us do things like this to learn values.  We had to do exercises painting colored objects in B&W.  You already understand that there are more values than what you see, you just need to practice making the "round" things be round so to speak.

I did a lot of paintings and really enjoyed the experience.

Painting from life in a box setup with ONE LIGHT source is very helpful to see changes in values, especially if you can leave the setup and can look at it over a longer period of time.  Trying to notice how the light hits and what it is doing.  "We paint light, not objects" (Baumman)  This is so true.  It is the light that makes the objects appear round, etc.  Hope this helps you out some.

Have you looked into RR color course?  It is very good and not expensive for ALL the chapters you get.

if its black adn white i see it just fine. But when color is added..i cant see it anymore.
