Hi Eibhlin, thanks very much, I'm glad you like him. You are right, the branch is painted from life. I found my model on the ground in the woods just when I was struggling with this particular part of the painting. I think I must have spent about 4 hours on the branch alone; it was tough-going!

I love the beautiful bright plump orange breast on your Kingfisher Mairo, lovely contrast between bird and background super painting!
