I did this a few years ago. What did I learn? He used a purple underground in almost the same value as the paint he put on top. He also mixed all his colors with something like cerulean blue in order to get a tonal color harmony. The figures in the background are only suggestions.

I like yours better too Aurelia! Do you mean he toned his canvas in purple, or did an underpainting in purple?

The warm violet hue thru out your painting ties it all together. LOve the lyrical quality of your shapes.
Sorolla is a favorite artist of mine. His ability to capture the intensity of light was remarkable. Your studies are very good.

Thank you Jon! You flattering me! I don't think I can ever stand in Sorolla's shoes. :) I let the underpainting dried first before I start painting.
