Decided to try this small painting after a frustrating session with a large 30x40. I didn't join the workshop this time, so any likes will just be likes and not votes. ; )

Oh, thank you Richard, you made my day!!!! I had a really good lesson on broken color from a really good teacher once. ; ) You made it so easy to understand, and now it's among the first things I teach my students.
BEAUTIFUL! ooh LOVE that broken colour! I want to put this on a sandwich and eat it.
Love the size of this boat. You have painted this beautifully. Smiles :)
Lovely!
Hi Britt. Well I certainly would not do a thing to that front boat .... you did a magnificent job on that .. I just put your painting into my personal library! On the sail boat, I would kind of soften some of that front edge. I would also soften lines where the sailboat goes behind the front boat ... that gives it a little "air" between the two .. makes it look like the sailboat is behind the big boat and not just butting up against it. Nice story about the sailboat. :)
Thank you, Steinunn and Michael! I completely agree about the far boat being sharper than the front boat, Michael. Do you think I should go back and soften the sailboat and give that front boat a nice hard chine?
Maybe I was subconsciously giving the sailboat the spotlight, as I met my husband sailing and he proposed on a sailboat. ; )
Britt, this is one doggone good painting!!! Beautiful broken color, great design elements, and well placed shapes. I just love looking at your shape distribution and how beautiful those shapes are!! ... You also have impeccable values!!! Don't know if I would have made the bow of the background boat so sharp???? ... but what the heck, a most beautiful and masterly painting!!!
Two oldies, well done Britt!
