Oil on canvas 12"x12" Using compliments red violet and yellow green. Let me say right off this has given me a headache; literally and figuratively, working this combination of colors...which means it was probably the most beneficial!. There are a number of things I could still play with, but, well, that headache says enough already! Next I hope to do a quieter one of my choice. I would name this "Nightmare In Prescott" *laughing...sorta*

Chan, I know what you mean. I love using a full spectrum of hues also. That is where RR's workshops are challenging me to do that which I've never considered OR never wanted to try. That is why I'm working small and on pieces of canvas so I can feel liberated from being too precious with paint or materials. You work is all so very well done.

And Laura, yes it is quite a wild color scheme...that was my personal challenge. I really didn't like any of the other options so either, if we were to stick to the two color strings. I first went very literal and used premixed tubes of paint that I've collected and thought this would be a great way to put them to use.  Acra Violet, by Liquitex and Grumbacher Thalo Yellow Green. I mixed my warm and cool strings, using the AV to grey the TYG. Boy!!! that REALLY made my eyes hurt! I had to add some Cobalt blue, (has a cool bias vs. U-Blue with a warm bias.) to my green dark. Still makes my eyes hurt, but not as bad, ;-) Here is my palette showing both strings:

Garish, no matter how we cut it, interesting though.

Linda, glad it caught your eye (more like attacked it! lol) and had a light moment. Thanks for the comments, you made me smile back!

I like your sense of humour, Carolyn :-)  Good for you for experimenting with such an unusual palette!

It is hard for me to think and paint with restricted color schemes. I cannot ignore the wide range of colors of the nature and make it with only a string of 2 colors.

Carolyn, this is very different color scheme. I like it! Sounds like you learned a lot from this workshop even it was little bit painful :)

Different colors Carolyn but it caught my eye and gave me a smile...especially, "Nightmare in Prescott"  Great job!  You did better than me because I didn't even try it...someday...
