Hi Nancy.  I really like the contrasts of value and color.  The background supports the Cardinal very well .. you have downplayed that quite well!!   I would like to see some warm tones under the branch .. some warm reflected light bouncing up ...  you have a very slight hint of it, but maybe something a little more stronger ..... and reddish?
