Oils, 24" x 36". Painted in 1978. This painting won first place and best of show in a competition in my old home town. After the show the bank purchased it and it has been hanging in the bank lobby. I have reaquired the painting and am very pleased to have it back. I had been painting for 2 years when I did this. The background is glazes. The cowboy is standing in front of a camp fire with only portions of the face and clothes lite up to view.

Thank you Kim for your words of encouragement.  I hope you do try again.  I had a photo I was working from.  I wish I could figure out for myself how to do the same type photo.  I would do more of them.  My painting Children in a Kiva was one of my photos when they were standing on a ladder and the only light was coming from the hole in the ceiling where the ladder entered the kiva.  I love the effect.  Ro

I like the ambiance that the light from the fire creates.

Awwww Holly, Thanks for all that encouragement. When I saw it again having not seen it for sure since 1998 when we retired. I was shocked that it had color in the hands and face. I only remembered the idea behind it. I had no photos. I am so encouraged to again try something I consider hard! LOL Ro

Thanks again Sharon. I had completely forgotten this painting only remembering the idea. I am still trying to focus on landscapes at the moment. (The wind could blow and I could change my mind in a heart beat.)
