Oils 16x20 inch. 2nd painting I finished after starting back in oils. Started plein air. OK to laugh at the jack-o-lantern in the lower left! LOL

Ro, you got right back in there & did an outstanding job after  not painting for so long, this is a beauty & I love the rain shower, the flowers in front are really nice & I love the little cluster of flowers  giving the jack o lantern look :)

Lyndia, We were sitting at the base of one mountain range looking across a great valley with the mountains being about 15-20 miles away across the valley. I used actuall vanishing point lines to determin just how big-tall the plants should be as they went away from you in perspective. //// Peter, this is in the desert of New Mexico where water just quickly runs off after a rain. If it is a big rain, there is always the threat of flash flooding down lower in the valley where all the water finally meets.

This is really lovely Roena, makes you want to take a walk, so peaceful. I love the way the mountains seem so far away then everything is so close at the front.

Beverly, this was the 1st painting I started plein air after 30 years of not painting in oils. It was the 2nd one I finished. My brother liked it so I gave it to him. I never did correct that jack-o-lantern. LOL Thank you for looking and your kind comments of encouragement. It means a lot to me that you took the time to comment. Ro

Roena, this is lovely. You have really captured the depth of the scene and the colors are beautiful. I'm really partial to the desert landscape. LOL about the jack-o-lantern! I think we all find unintended shapes in our painting sometimes. I once had a judge at a show point out Kilroy in one of my paintings and after that I could never see anything else but that shape. Also, if you look in the lower left corner of my 'Desert Poppies' painting you will see an ogre in one of the rocks. I spotted that myself but only months after I had finished it.

LOL Yelena, you have a way with words. This was the 2nd painting I finished when I started back after 30 years. I was lucky to remember (or rather guess) at what I was doing. Thanks for looking my friend and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it very much. Ro

The problem with the oil for many of artists that we add too much white to delute the hue, so painting gets somehow "chalky"
