Betsy I was attempting to do what Richard did wet on wet with soft brush but it didnt work out so well -too blended my brush was different or I just couldnt manage it.So I used the edge of the knife on it when it had dried a bit. I sometimes use an old hardware brush that Ive roughed up by banging against a wall. Something I read in a book by Robert Hagan.
Linda I had been thinking of just that with a cloud shadow down the right but I think Illgo for a redo whenever I get the time
Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to comment Very much appreciated.
Michael what you suggest is great. i see what is wrong but lack the vision to know how to fix it!!
Linda I know exactly what you mean. Local people who buy know every curve of their mountains and want it exactly the way it is. I have a problem with this a lot but I dont see this farmer as a likely customer!!!!
Besides this one is more "generic" more about the feel of an Irish farmyard.
So I will paint it again exactly as Michael has so brilliantly suggested
Hi Linda. My suggestion was just an alternative ...this composition is fine. A major change is okay ..we don't know that. Yes! ..I am very happy you said that Linda!! ....got your artistic/composition hat on!! :)) A beautiful painting Olivia ..I am just throwing out some thoughts to everyone to think about movement and direction in their next paintings.
Great piece of art Olivia!!! The blue/green roof looks fine. Although your composition is very good, I would like to point out an alternative movement to your composition: About 2/3 up the eave of the blue/green roof, begin your background hill ..going the other way!! Then extend the pole on the right barn up a little. Okay, this will create an opposite movement from all of the movement to the left that you have. You will move the view down the road, and then they will follow the line of the hillside to the right and down to the tall pole and back to the beginning of the road. This will also create a nice negative shape above the blue/green roof. Normally, when you have a dominate anything ..like movement and direction...... a contrasting, sub dominant direction would provide unity of direction. Try doing a sketch of what I suggested and see what you think. Very good work Olivia!! :))
Nice design, beautiful painting Olivia! I love the grass on the left, the path, sheep and the houses, everything.
