This is the second of a 6x6" acrylic c-v studies. I will do one more on the cool side before deciding on which will be the final painting (hopefully before the Workshop closes). Although, consistent with the reference photo, I don't like the composition of the lone cedar tree and am thinking the small tree on the left should larger and moved right and partially behind the lone tree to create a balance to the darker hillside on the right. Keeping with my musical score theme, this might be Sergeant Pepper? Open to hearing critiques.

Thanks for your critique. I had not consider removing the rock on lower right but can see what you are saying.  It did present a challenge and I could make that space more interesting.  Addressing the distinct line, I viewed the rocks lower left as looping the viewer back to the point of interest.  In my current version (not posted) I have added two trees to the left of the lone tree, overlapping one with the lone tree and it works better.  I am also going to present the trees as an abstract form to be in keeping with concept.

Love that you are doing something different and colourful and using colour to suggest your shade, cools and warms.  Hmmm, I guess my critique would be : three corners have been used to introduce a subject and there is a distinct line from the top right to mid left that leads the eye right out of the painting. Yes I think you are right in moving the small tree in behind the other as it is superfluous where it is (lucky thing, can't do that with watercolour!).  Perhaps you could think about losing the bottom right and extreme bottom left rocks and increase that lovely mix of red/blue/yellow you have  between them which might help balance that sky which is the attention grab for me. Along the base you have the same width of subject - left rock, red/blue, right rock.  But perhaps this was all part of your design?
