Thank you C J !  Wow, you are really getting strong on your figurative and portrait work!!! .. good stuff.  Anyway,   After I posted this, I whittled down  some of that left foreground tree a bit .... did not bother to repost thought.

Hello Michael, Thanks for the explanation on the contrasts in your composition; very interesting (and educational for me). Good luck with your knee op; hopefully it won't take you away from your easel for too long :). Bon courage!!

Thank you Mairo .. very nice analysis ..appreciate you taking the time to do that.  My goal is to teach myself how to put both music and poetry into my compositions .. so,  I am very pleased and encouraged by your comments.  About the mauve/yellow pair .. my dominant contrast is the small light against the large dark.  The contrast of complimentary color .. the rock and bank .. is one of my subdominant contrasts.

A lovely painting indeed. I find what strikes me the most is the sense of peaceful atmosphere created by the soft slants in the composition along with the beautiful harmonious colour palette that you have used. I particularly like the cool mauve/greys that you have built into the foreground rocks. I imagine this is to compliment the bright yeelow light on the far bank? It certainly holds a lot of emotion!

Thanks Ian! .. I wish I could photograph better ... that light has a lot of broken color in it that the camera just does not pick up ...  it picked up my color in the shadows, but I guess it cannot to both light and shadow when in the "program" mode?
