Check the large dark tree shape that is in the current photo of Michaels painting of spring. Its a great example of how to change a tree shape slightly with sky holes to make it less imposing.

Comment by Laura Xu on April 21, 2015 at 15:00: Hi Michael, Thank you! the tower is lost in the fog :). I was thinking put another tower at left end as you can see but it wouldn't look good. I don't feel like to move the tower to the left now as it is little too expensive, rather than put a larger boat or something else on the left side. I played it little bit today. Here is the photo. And also I will work on a studio one to correct all the issues. Still I cann't think enough when I paint out. I can stand on location forever if I don't start to paint :(.

Comment by Michael J. Severin on April 21, 2015 at 14:29: Laura, I like your use of subtle colored grays to depict the weather ..very good. Where is the other tower? If you can only see one tower, move it way over to the left ...better balance. One way you can get the Golden Gate Bridge to sit back into space is to first paint the sky, water, etc ....then paint the bridge into that ..wet into wet. It will fuse with the atmosphere very nicely. ....but move that tower ..no one will know it was not like that.

I believe Richard's workshop was Fort Baker which is North side of Golden Gate Bridge, Stu and I painted same place couple of times. This is at Sourth West of Bridge.

I don't like both the posts and green bushes go up to the top of canvas. I want to push the bridge back, specially the posts need to be faded. The tree mass is big challenge to me. I need to push some darks, and make it better shapes make be. I am thinking to paint a studio version to have a better composition. Thank you again Ann!

Comment by Ann Turner on April 20, 2015 at 16:24: Hi Laura, I like the bottom of the painting. The rocks and swishy water, the green grass as a lead in form the forward edge. The top of the painting, I'm not to sure about. The strong red posts leading up and out of the painting take my eye out and not back into the painting. Would it help to soften the top of the bridge posts like they are lost in fog ? Maybe make the far coastline an irregular shape to give us a place to visually move back down. You might want to add some sky holes to the large tree mass to add interest and to make it less bulky. Just some food for thought when you di your next masterpiece.
