The Rangitikei River - a little downstream from where we live.
Tried to see the big shapes - please do not hold back the criticism!

Thank you Joy for taking the trouble to comment- I will certainly re look at it. Unfortunately this photo of the painting has come out very blue whereas the actual painting defines the edge of the river a lot better with more greys and not so much chroma - I must re photograph it some time and post it again. The light was late in the afternoon and I was drawn to the way it fell in the valley, just catching the top of the cliffs and the left bank, and creating shadow on the the river's edge.

Thank you so much Olivia and Christine for your constructive comments - I really will have to do something there as it is definitely creating confusion! The river is supposed to be just the lighter blue and the darker parts are supposed to be the beach or edge in shadow!

Gorgeous, Robin! Your colors are so nice. Just an opinion, but the water in the foreground is a little confusing to me. The rest is spectacular : )

Fabulous painting and scene Robin.

I love the feeling  of distance and the  way you have managed all those  different planes.

As Joy has mentioned a little blending at the edges of those dark blue water patches and you have a real stunner

Craig - you are very kind and boost my confidence no end - thank you! I have just had a peep at your photos and love your impressionist style. But I was sorry to hear about your wife's sickness and know what a challenging time it must be for you as my husband had intense chemo and surgery a couple of years ago. Thankfully he is well now and I do hope your wife will soon be too. Thinking of you both.

Hi Robin , I believe I did you an injustice earlier and sped past this painting , it is truly beautiful and a wonderful composition. You are blessed to have such marvelous scenery close at hand. Great shadows on the right and sunlit banks on the left and what appears to me are great shadows above from clouds passing. Let me correct myself again the disservice was my own for I only robbed myself of the joy of experiencing this by speeding by.

Thanks Silvana - you are always so encouraging! Just thought why the camera picked up so much blue- it is almost snowing here and I photographed it in the shade.
