Very nice Elena. It is so amazing to see work of art from all over the world. Keep painting!
Betsy, thank you to explane it to Silvana. It was night in the Netherlands, and I found your discussion only now. I visited Valaam a year ago, and now painted this from one of photos I made there.
Duh. I just understood that you were asking about the language. Yes, it is Russian. Christ has risen! Response: Truly He has risen!
It's Finnish name, but I believe it lies inside the Russian Federation. I am sure if you google it, a bunch of stuff will come up on it.
Betsy! Thank you! It's interesting to learn about other cultures in the world! But, is it Russian?
Silvana,
Valaam is an island in Russia that houses a very old Russian Orthodox Christian monastery. It's really considered a place where some very holy saints have lived, and is even considered a pilgrimage site for the faithful. Orthodox Christians, of which I and most Russians are, just celebrated Easter this past Sunday, so I greeted Elena with the traditional greeting used amongst the Orthodox right after Easter. I wanted to let her know I appreciated the subject matter of the painting.
¡No entiendo! Ne razumem! Je ne comprend pas! Non capisco! ......I don't understand! I like the painting though!
Voistinu voskres! :)
