RIchard, it's hard to communicate since you can't hear my voice. Im asking because i wanted to know if people that buy art are picky, if it's not oils. I've never sold anything, just curious. I guess people will buy it whether it's oil or water mixable eh? If they love it they'll buy it!

So it's not "Oil on canvas" it's "Water mixable oils on canvas". Im confused. On the bottom of your painting it says "Oil" So when you sell your work do you go between Water mixables and oils? The last three workshop did you use water mixable oils??

Beautiful painting!  Wonderful warm atmosphere.  Interesting to read the comments on water soluble oils - I have been using Cobra brand for the past year too.  Didn't know it was possible to tone the canvas first with acrylics - will have to try that.  I use water to make the paint more fluid as I haven't been able to find walnut oil.  Kind of like the effect that gives, maybe because I first began painting with water colours!

In my opinion water mixable oils are about 90% of the feel and workability of standard oils. They tend to lift off the canvas a little easier which means brushstrokes often reveal a little more of the canvas than you would expect. I've overcome this in this painting by toning the canvas with a warm beige acrylic first.

Cleanup is easier and less hazardous. I use walnut oil as my medium to avoid any fumes from mediums which include drying agents. I also read that some people can develop a sensitivity to Linseed oil so I thought it best to avoid that too.

When I use standard oils now I tend to use M Graham's oils since the binder in those is walnut oil as opposed to linseed oil in most other standard oils. When I use those I cleanup with a citrus cleaner (zest-it) or occasionally turps or kerosene when I want a more thorough clean, although my head usually regrets it afterwards.
