Hey Lynn.  This is Michael Severin ... Let me try to answer your question, if I may.  It is certainly artist preference for anything we do, but also .. Photographs have a tendency (unless your a pro, I guess) .. to be cool ... standing at this place, the eye would pick up more warmth then the photo did .. the eye would also pick up more color and value nuances.  So that all comes into play.  I don't know if you plein air paint, but if you do, sometime take a look at your plein air painting against a photo you took of the spot .... note the difference between the photo and what YOU actually see.  Note also, that is mostly (not always) preferable to have a dominant warm painting as opposed to a cool one ... the buying public is drawn more to warm paintings.  If Richard answers this, he will probably confirm and probably add some more? .... but in the meantime, I hope that kind of answers your question.

Hey Richard. I am going to try this. I noticed that you used a warmer color palette than the reference photo. Your artistic preference? Or did you just think that it provided more visual interest? Just curious because it is very beautiful the way you have done it.

Thanks Michael. It's a warm grey so probably burnt sienna, blue, yellow ochre and white. More white and yellow ochre as it gets closer to the water.

Beautiful Richard!! ....  What colors did you mix for the sand? ....  in the video, all of a sudden it is just there .... I was kind of waiting for that particular moment to arrive .. thanks Richard.   Or, if anybody out there knows, please let me know .. thanks. :)
