Michael I didn't do it justice... The pacific ocean does get very electric blue especially when the sky is blue or there is a sunset. Just stunning. I sold the painting to someone who could see the scene I painted from his home. Newport Oregon... Thank you, I went to your page and you are an impressionist. Very nice work

hi beverly.  well, the water is pretty electric blue.  it really needs to be less saturated.  also, the water and cliffs need to relate to each other .. to unify your painting, you paint the blue into the cliffs ... especially out there in the distant cliff ... then paint the rock color into the water .. especially at the base of the cliffs.  think about temperature changes in the water .... and cliffs.  some warmth would be showing in the shallower surf.  your subject is the lighthouse .. it is in your title ... but you have shoved it far to the edge of your canvas and made it real tiny.  to make the lighthouse the actuall subject, it needs to be the dominant element ... the most detailed, the strongest contrast, the strongest color, the sharpest edges.  everything else is a supporting element.  moving the LH to the golden section or 1/3 line, or even at the abated rectangle would have been a better choice for composition purpose.  now, if you titled this:  "The Ocean at Yaquina Head" .... Maybe a different story ..but then you would really have to make the ocean more interesting.   Do you see how that works?

Beverly,  be careful of over saturating your colors.  Value first, then color.
