The kookaburra is painted on a piece of slate I found in the garden, and the mermaid, cat etc. are painted onto gum leaves. The leaves make quite an interesting surface to paint on and the shapes make the composition of the painting more of a challenge.

I've never tried painting on feathers.... interesting idea though.
