Diane at Waipu Cove

'Diane at Waipu Cove' 12x16" Oil on Canvas by Richard Robinson

Painted this a few days ago for Diane whom I posed under the red umbrella. Another beautiful summer's day at Waipu Cove with the kids playing in the background, and Diane attempting her second ever grown-up drawing (while trying not to move too much).

You can see how I added more shadow in the foreground to try and achieve a more balanced and interesting composition.

I like how you handled the shadows in the foreground, the trees are delicate in colour and value, so is the beach too. The background beach-curve has such a gentle move back into the painting. Really beautiful are also the subtle background colors, merging into a convincing depth to dive in. The only thing that springs into the eye is the figure. Maybe the bluegreen shirt is a bit too saturated for a shadow plane. What do you think if you look at it from distance?
