"Lost in Paradise II" 10x8" Oil on Canvas by Richard Robinson

Painted this colourful little one today working from the one I did yesterday. I wanted to see how vibrant I could make the colour. There's a fine line between colourful and gawdy and everyone draws that line in a different place. Which one do you prefer?

first one with violets

Well, I like the addition of the violet and blue especially around the palm trees. It looks to me like the second painting has a greater value change going on with it being darker coming into the painting and also in the right back corner which brings a greater focus to the center beach and wave there, and it seems that you have lightened the sky behind the palm trees adding to the focus there. The second painting is very nice and has more drama to me. I guess what I am saying is that the value differences are having a greater impact on me than the color differences.  Having said all that I would still buy the first painting over the second one. The second painting makes me want to look at it but the first one makes me want to be there. Both very nice.

I do like the darker palms in the new one.
