Hi guys, I'm actually down in Glenorchy at the moment staying with John Crump on my yearly trip to the great mountains of the South Island. While the snow is coming down here I'm taking the opportunity to keep working on the Mastering Sunsets dvd, which is coming along nicely, largely thanks to all your support. Of course I don't know everything there is to know about painting sunsets so I'm researching researching researching, asking hard questions and coming up with some solid answers.
A big part of this project is going to be painting critiques of the sunset paintings (not all of them) that our members have uploaded to this site. Above is one of those I worked on today for the video (thanks Jackie!)
This one helps to illustrate the difficulties of painting sunset clouds which, because of their strong warm/cool contrasts have an annoying tendency to turn to mud after only a little bit too much fiddling. That's just one of the many problems specific to sunsets which I'm going to be covering in detail in the course, but I thought you might like to see a little bit of what I've been up to. As soon as it stops snowing here we'll be out painting, so I'll see about getting some photos of that and this amazing location if and when that happens.
Happy painting you guys!
