New to The Complete Artist site

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this site and thought I would give you a brief profile on myself.  I live on acreage in the Gold Coast Hinterland, Australia and have been painting on and off (mostly off due to working full time) for the last 25 odd years. I have been retired for the last few years, so I now have a lot more time on my hands and want to focus on painting, which to me is a lifetime pursuit.  My first painting lessons were in oils, which I enjoyed very much at the time, and then I went on to taking lessons in watercolour at the Watercolour Society of Queensland.  I attend painting workshops whenever possible and have another one coming up in a weeks time, which I’m looking forward to very much. 

My husband and I travel a lot in our caravan so we spend a couple of months each year on the road in the Australian outback somewhere.  It’s great for collecting photographic material, but I haven’t yet succeeded in doing any decent paintings while on the road, unfortunately.

I have also ventured into acrylics and took some lessons while in South Australia on our travels.   So I am happy to paint in oils, acrylics or watercolour, but I guess my favourite medium is watercolour.  I also love bright colours and am definitely a colourist.

Unfortunately I’m also a great procrastinator.  It takes me a long time to actually put some paint on that white paper!!  Even when I have set myself up to paint, I find myself stalling all of the time and avoiding that paper or canvas.  I’m hoping that joining this site and following Richard’s lessons, will help me to actually get started and do some painting rather than thinking or reading about it.  I’m looking forward to it and to joining the online community.

Hi Coleen,

Your experience with painting sounds similar to mine although I have not travelled as you have. I retired a few years ago and wanted to start painting again. I just signed up here and hope to stop procrastinating and get going. It seems whether working or not, I find things to do around my home. I need to schedule time each day for working in my studio. At least that's the plan. If I can find time for housework, laundry, etc., I should find time for me.

I live in The USA near Boston, Massachusetts.
