Got quite busy today with other stuff, but here's today's progress after about 3 hours. The water's not finished yet by any means. I haven't yet started to add the things that will make it look transparent like little rocks on the bottom, ripples of light and the all important sky reflection, so there's a ways to go yet. I found this all very tricky - trying to make this large area realistic, yet painterly, like 'abstract realism' if I can coin a phrase. Italian American artist Pino does this exceedingly well, but I really really struggled with it today. I had to keep forcing myself to rub and scrape back, splash some paint and be more daring - SO easy to get caught in the detail. At the moment I think it's a little on the hideous side, but I'm really hoping those extra details I mentioned will make sense of it all.
Below is the progress from whoa to go:
Thanks for your encouragement guys - really appreciated. Hope your painting is going well.
Cheers,
Richard
