Chapter 4 "Value" of the Mastering Color course is ready to go. I've spent a long time whittling this down to it's absolute core. There's just so much you could do here to learn about value, it was a matter of choosing the most powerful methods out of the bunch and putting that across in the best way. Most of the learning is about exploring it yourself, once I give you the tools, so I'm interested to see how many people who buy the lesson will actually do the exercises. It's all too easy to just sit back and watch the video and be spoon fed - I'm guilty of doing that with some of my instructional dvd purchases too.

One neat idea I did come up with for this was solving the problem of getting people to find and make their own exercise blocks of different colors and values. This is quite a mission because I've done it myself for my live workshops with wooden blocks. I was wondering how to get around that problem when the idea popped into my head to design cube on paper that people could print out and glue together - and that gave me control over the values and colors of the cubes too. It's a bit like mental therapy putting the cubes together but they are by far the best way to learn about value and color - it takes it right down to basics.

Got a commission to do now, and then I'll start on chapter 5.

cubes + double sided tape = fun... they are really rather cute, but I don't recommend Glossy photo paper until I have enough skill to paint my reflected self-portrait in the side of the cube. Ha!
