"Sunset Study" 10x8" Oil on Canvasboard
Hi guys, I hope you're warm wherever you are - it's freezing cold in New Zealand - it actually snowed close to where I live which is crazy! I was working on the Mastering Sunsets dvd course today trying a new method I found demonstrated by David Dunlop. I guess many of you living in the US have seen David on TV over there but it was the first time for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this guy - he's got the enthusiasm of Richard Simmons and all the painting knowledge to back up his convictions - what a great teacher/entertainer. I recommend you go checkout his website: www.paintingclass.net
The technique was basically laying down a yellow wash first and working into that with very few colors, BIG brushes and creating interesting textures to simulate detail.
All the best,
Richard.

I am new to the site. Looking forward to learning some new techniques. Just posted some sunsets and will be checking out D Dunlop for sure. Thanks
Thanks Monique. I laid the yellow on thinly first then wiped it off a bit with a cloth, the worked over the top with thicker paint - darks then lights.
Thank you for giving me the chance to know David Dunlop, very good teacher and fun to watch.
I like your new sunset but wonder how the blue and yellow do not make green...if you are working wet on wet?
