Finished Sketch. Total time: 3 hrs.

Here's a painting I did yesterday. It's based on a field sketch and photography for a commission I'm working on. I expect to take a while on this commission, so I'll go through a few sketches like this one. Have been looking at Monet a lot, so it will be interesting to see what comes out of it all.

I pulled my old Winsor & Newton water mixable oils out of the drawer to see how they would go. Not at all as crap as I remember them - actually really enjoyed it and can't see much wrong with them at all. It's been 5 years, so maybe it's just that I know what I'm doing a bit more now. Only problem at the moment is that they dry too slowly so will have to find a quick drying medium suitable for them. Do you know of one? Yesterday I just used W&N water mixable linseed oil - sparingly, so I imagine this painting is going to take quite a while to dry. Had lots of fun with it, and that's the main thing.

Thanks guys, was fun to paint too - looking forward to doing more studies like this. Want to get a good handle on it before I go trying a big one. Looking forward to seeing your Teal Bay painting Gregory.

This was so fun to watch. I plan to post some paintings soon if I can ever find them on my computer. I did the teal bay painting lesson. I hope I can find it on my computer.
