Pa Beach, Great Barrier Island, New Zealand.

Not a bad spot eh!? This is from my recent trip to Great Barrier Island. If you are keen like I am to use this photo for the next online workshop please do click on the image and then use the 'like' button to vote for this. I've also been commissioned to paint a large painting of this so it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone and you'll also get to see how I deal with a large commission from whoa to go.

Thanks guys.

Richard, I am in complete agreement with Anne Marie and Natasha.  I'm ready to paint what you think is best and rise to the challenge if it is not my first choice.  Stu

I agree with Natasha......... we need to accept some challenges that are more difficult  in order to learn. (for me it happens to be  landscapes duh!)

I truly have gained in both knowledge and experience from the 3 Workshops and other lessons that Richard has provided for us.  I will accept whatever is decision is made on the next Workshop subject because I really can't think of any good reason not to be involved in this awesome experience!.

Hi Richard,

I like this scene, it has good potential simply because you don't see paintings of this type very often.

May I offer a suggestion. I know you like to have a theme for each workshop so you can put the series on DVD which is a good idea. But why not consider providing photos from several different themes (still life, landscapes, etc.) and letting each participant choose based upon their preference.

Just a thought. :o)

If I only painted what I wanted, I wouldn't learn anything.  That's why I like having an instructor guiding the curriculum.

Hi Richard, it seems a bit of a hornet's nest has been stirred up with your choice for the next workshop but for me, I think its a deceptively simple landscape and I can't wait to lock horns with and try to do justice to the scene..

You live in such a beautiful country ... the colour of the water is amazing!

I've Just about finished murdering the current workshop and will probably load it over the weekend.

I hope I  might get some feedback.

I agree with Anne Marie and Li Ningning -  enjoy the odd landscape and seascape, but I would like change, street scenes, still life, plein air, like old statues, doorways etc.  I haven't started my third workshop yet, but hope to get down to it next week!!  I take your point Richard about DVDs needing four sessions - but it is difficult to get enthusiastic about mountains and sea (I find them hard to do) -  everyone is different, that's what makes it interesting.   I  must say your photographs are superb.

This works for me. I love the rock formation on the foreground. Great shadows to work with.

A good candidate for a palette knife!

I would have liked to see a bit more of the tree though, do you have another view?

hmm, I was all ready to take a break from the workshops, but this is gorgeous!  Reminds me of Maui. I guess I can't stop now.....

A change of subject after the fourth workshop does sound good though.
