Lorna, Congratulations to you for winning a price which is not easy to get. That means you are realy way out by my husband's words. Realism is going on for so many years and so many wonderful merits hiden there. People will never give up realism as it first is coming from our life and then reflect to the life we are living in. Without realism people will lost. That is what I believe. Techniques are other things which can be abstract to creat realistic image. Well,  I'd better stop pretending to be a critics. Anyway, I mean, the fact showed that realism is still be appreciated and valued by the artists's striving effort, as you did.  Happy for you!  About competition, I read your words carefully and I agree with all your views.  By the way, today, a well-known peruvian painter's wife asked me to paint a garden with some houses, which was built in 1821. I was very brave and accepted  though I never paint things like that. I Just want to tell you that don't worry about me. I am confident and happy with my progress, sometimes even don't know where is danger . It made me painted some paintings far beyond  my knowledge of this art and  my limitation.   Lorna,  again, thank you for your time to write to me.My best wishes to you and your art.  Love, Li

Lorna, Thank you so much for you kindness and good will. I appreciate it indeed. For your information,  I won once already. Therefore, I sincerely hope that others have chance to shine. Or it will be sad for those who made same big effort like me standing in the shadow  for too long time. I am good in some way but still need a lot to improve and to learn. By the way here is the place for me to learn with fun and enjoy the friendship. That is most important for me. I told people that I only painted more than 30 pieces, they do not believe me. You'd better trust me, I feel I am not deserve to win too much, it will make me feel I am bigger than I really am.  Lorna  hope that you understand me. Love,  Li

How sweet of you Lorna to remember me special.  I appreciate that and it means a lot to me.  I have been staying away from the art sites trying to paint.  My loss because I am not checking the gallery to see the new works.  But, I am painting.  I have joined a forum on another site and we are trying to learn how to paint in the Flemish technique.  It is a lot of work, but I hope it will make for a super painting. I would say it is 100% realistic.  That is a far cry from me trying to learn to paint in an impressionist way.  LOL  I am trying the technique but painting some (3) American Indian pots on a rabbit skin.  //// Hey, R U familar with this site? http://www.artrenewal.org/pages/search.php  It is an online museum of the masters.  Scroll down and pick a master and all their paintings come up.  I lived in a very small town in west Texas and never saw any good art, much less this quality.  I found it very nice, and hope to spend some time really looking and trying to learn.  Good goal for next year. /// Thanks again for remembering me this Christmas.  Ro

If you would like to see my exercises that I have done, go to the FORUM tab and pic COLOR. On page 4 & 5 (I think) I have posted my paintings of blocks painted in a 9 values scale. I have done 10 little studies so far & I think I am finally starting to be able to see color as values. Richard's color course is very, very good! I have looked at all the video, read all the note pages that came with the course, and am starting to do the exercises. I once had a professional artist friend tell me that the reason I could not see "color" looking at nature is because I had not been trained to see it. I told him when I looked outside in the pine forest of Colorado I saw green. LOL So, I am hopeful that I will gain this seeing ability using this color course. I think I am getting better as I have been "noticing". That is probally the first thing....to just pay attention. lol We are in New Mexico right now, and this is the most colorful place with rocks, grass, , etc. Here is just one evenings thunderhead I got a photo of the other evening. Hey new friend! My goal is to be a colorist-slightly impression-landscape artist. I like the style and use of color that RR (Richard Robinson) does. I had a 30 year laps in my art, so I am trying to make a comeback and learn new things. I'm working my way through RR color course now. If you ever see one of my post and know a trick to share I would appreciate it very much. Ro
