Dee, today, my friend who wants to be my model invited me for lunch. So much food!!! I told her that I will paint her semi nude. She said no, she wanted all nude. She is not young at all  but has a good figure. She wants a memory before her image disappeared.  So I said yes. It will be my new adventure . I will get something for her to be comfortable. Oh, mine!!! Thank you Dee for your concept.

So true!  Working from photos is so dispiriting.  I think because I feel locked in to what is there even though the information may not meet my needs or be relevant.  Having a hard immovable copy seems to stifle my creativity, it is like I am a beginner again just trying to reproduce the scene.  I like photos as back up for sketches when I've already made the initial decision about why I am painting in the first place .... the sketching from life  helps me appreciate what I am observing and oftentimes surprises me. It is also meditative and interactive while working from a photo seems stress inducing!  Sorry to ramble, I have just spent the day working from photos trying to do composition exercises for VAA and wondering why it felt disappointing, not to mention unsuccessful. I think your note just nailed it!

I am looking forward to next month's assignment too, hopefully another still life.

Catch you later,

Jane

Hi Dee
Thanks for the add.
Carole is on www.claypeople.co.uk.
I know Carole from France originally as she owns the house next door to my parents. I think Carole's daughter Hollly went to the same dance school as my cousins. My dad is from Hastings originally so he knows a lot of folk round there.
It's a small world isn't it? I joined this site a few weeks ago when I had been researching my family history and found one of my relatives on here.
Looking forward to seeing more of your work, I'm only amateur myself do I can't match your standards but I'm learning lots already!

Hi Dee
I like your pics and your website. Your work is very unique, I wish I could produce something similar! Do you know of Carole Sheldrake from Hastings, I think you will like her work.
Hope to see more of your work

Found Richard's site thru VAA ... the video offer.  Decided I need all the help I can get and having deadlines with assignments works well for me.  I also like the fact that they complement each other.  I only joined a week or so ago, liked the pear challenge. You have some very nice paintings showing, are any the Sussex coast?  I was at college in Bognor Regis and lived for a year in Felpham, right next to the ocean, gorgeous.  Am in desert and mesa now and definitely miss the water but love the sunshine!

Hi there Dee, Nice to see you here and such a young face. Art is timeless. Sadly we don't last as long as our work. Good place to hang your paintings. You can even hang an arty yarn. See you around, Terry

I just thought I would pop over and wish you a warm welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. There is much to explore, so be sure to click on everything to see what is available. I hope when you go to the PHOTO tab and look at the art, you will take time not only to look, but leave a comment too. I believe that people really appreciate the feedback. Ro
