Hello everyone,

My name is Olivia O'Carra and I am new ( also fairly new at using the computer so I am feeling my way very carefully).

I am from Ireland and live  in a very scenic area in the southwest right beside a national park.

The area is so beautiful anyone would be compelled to paint.

I try to capture it in oils.

I took early retirement from teaching Science some 12 years ago and with my family raised now have more time to spend on my hobby.

I do actually manage  to sell a lot of my paintings but I would very much like to "loosen up" and to improve on my "plein air" work which I usually redo when I get home. I get frustrated at how slow I am at getting it all together when I am outside.

I hope to attach 1 or 2 images of my paintings to give an idea of how beautiful this area is.

Welcome Olivia! I am sure you'll like this site a lot! It's ideal to learn what you are looking for! People around are very friendly and the environment is incredible! The paintings you have uploaded are beautiful! And the place where you live seems to be wonderful. At this moment I'd love to be retired with a good pension to be able to spend more time at home and painting....! But I am happy I have this site to learn at the moment I am free!

Happy painting!

Many thanks Silvana.Yes I am lucky to be retired but its amazing how things seem to move in and fill up your time.

I dont know how Im going to fit in going on line and studying Richards videos . That is why Ive decided to wait a bit before joining in on the workshops.I will need to get a printer also for my laptop.

I think from your profile photo you live by the sea which must give you many painting opportunities

Olivia, not really. The sea is about 5 hours drive from where I live... I like the sea and I love the mountains! I live in neither... fortunately it is quite rural where I am and I appreciate and enjoy that a lot!

Hello again Olivia, I was just reading about you and it interests me, it must be very beautiful over your way.

I am still trying to loosen up with my plein air and find it very challenging.  It is still a bit cold to go out but spring is soon on us...

Best wishes

Steinunn

Olivia, I just noticed this & read it for the first time - your paintings are so beautiful & so professional that I would have thought you've been painting full time for years!  No wonder you have sold so many of your paintings!

Greetings, Olivia! This is a GREAT group to paint with and keeps you interested & busy with new ideas. I, too, like to paint in the great out of doors. i'm so glad you introduced yourself! WALDA

Thank you so much Jessica for your encouraging comments.I am finding it very difficult to apply myself properly as i see you and others doing in order to  improve.i admire your lovely brushwork and looseness but still paint away as i Have always done! I must make  time to do  practice pieces to  really benefit from this great site

Hi Olivia, thank you for your encouraging remarks about my painting - it is fun to do the workshops; I don't always have time either but benefit when I do.  I love your style & you are obviously a very talented painter!  Your landscapes are wonderful! This is really a great site; I've learned a lot here & enjoy exchanging opinions with everyone.  Glad you found it too!  Happy painting!
