Hi I am new to the site and have only started back painting after a few years gap. I want to buy a daylight lamp, but I am confused as to what I need. Can anybody advise the best lamps to look at at a reasonable price?

The cheapest daylight lamp will be an ordinary bulb coated with blue. The usually have a screw fitting so need the appropriate lamp.

When you buy a replacement bulb for your existing lamp, look for one that specifically says "daylight" or "full spectrum."  These will provide a much cooler light than the old standard, warm incandescent bulbs.  The price should be similar.

The new LED Bulbs are great and you can buy them In Daylight Kelvin temp of around 5500 k.  The bulbs cost from $15-$28. at speciality houses
