Comment by Gail Richardson on January 12, 2017 at 7:42: I wouldn't say the sail is garish! And dull isn't the right word either (even though that's what I said). Maybe your colours are greener than Sargent's, so the sail isn't as 'golden', and the bright light on your walls is a cooler bright. Your painting has its own mood, consistent throughout, and it works for me. I like it.

Gail, I did struggle with some of the colors feeling dull so I tried to pop (push chroma) the sail as the center of interest and I agree maybe a little garish.When I took this photo most of the thinner darks were dry (dull) and any color with white in it or thick paint was still wet (glossy) after it dries I will varnish the painting, that should darken the darks and hopefully fix the dull impression.

With that, you've been able to add more detail to the top of the sail. It helps me make sense of the folds of the sail. Nice brushwork too. At first I thought your colours were dull, and your sail too chartreuse, but they've grown on me lol.
