Richard, I have just started working through some of your workshops and was curious to know why you add sky holes to your trees instead of taking the easy way and painting the sky first and then adding in the trees later.  I really like the effect this gives your work.  Is this just a style preference issue?

You can do either, but I prefer to do a bit of both, working backwards and forwards between lights and darks.
