Anytime. You are absolutely right. Your phone has an option that lets you take black and white photos. That can help you with judging the values much better. Our eyes see values in color differently at low light than it does in bright environment.

Thanks Daryoosh, for taking the time to help me out. I've taken one as you recommended in the shade outside, and it seems better, but I think photos are telling about whether you've got the right values or not, aren't they!! I'm just using my Samsung 5 phone camera which I believe is a good one.

p.s. you may want to watch for white balance setting on your camera if you would like the colors accurate.

Thanks Angela. Since I have not seen the original, I can't give you any useful feedback on if anything is off. Generally you want defused light (vs spot light coming from a single source) in an angle to reduce glare specially if you have impasto. Unless you want to show the bumps on the surface. If you don't want to invest on any equipment just take the photo in the shades on a sunny day or outside/by the window in a cloudy day. That is what I did with this one with a pocket camera. Sufficient light helps you with depth of field and speed and allows you take it hand held and still have a sharp image. I hope this helps.

Think I could've done a better job of the photography. Also, the reflections!

It has a very peaceful look.  and I love how clear and convincing water in the front looks.
