11x14 oil on board. I painted this in studio while it is still fresh in my memory. The mountain is Mt. Burdell.

great work Laura and the comments here are sp valuable to us all.
Michael, thank you not enough! You made me keep thinking if I should go ahead to continue to do the enhancement on this painting. I think I will may be not right now. I enjoy so much what you said here and I will keep it in mind!!! Thanks and Thanks!
100% improvement!!!! :)))) Do you see how just that little alteration of values and color improved the relationships of the masses and unified the painting? Now you have depth, atmosphere, and 3 visual planes. The water has now flattened out and is holding its place. That meandering lighter blue is a nice lead in to the focal area. The light patches are still a little spotty ...keep that in mind on your next painting. Also, try to avoid on subsequent paintings, 3 horizontal planes ..all you need to do on this one (your next painting) is to modify that foreground into a diagonal that moves you into the painting. Whenever you have a bar across the bottom, it stops the viewer immediately ...there is no where else to go but side to side ..you want the viewer to go front to back. Always ask yourself ...here is my subject ..my focal point ...how am I going to get the viewer to go there ..and when the viewer gets there, will I reward him/her with something interesting to look at ...why take them on a journey and leave them hanging? ...so in this painting, maybe a diamond sparkle of light hitting a building on the far shore ...those diamond sparkle lights really had pizzaz to a painting.
I am very happy you said that Stu!
Like to work on a new one having better composition.
Based on Michael's suggestion:
Mainly modified background mountains. Made front mountain lighter, and pushed second mountain back more. Re-touched little bit middle ground for the reflection. Decided to skip the foreground rework now as I am so afraid to do it in this painting. I hope this modification will improve the painting little bit. But all of comments and suggestions regarding improve the painting will count on my next painting. Thank you very much all my friends for your valuable input and time!!!
