Great Chuang!

Comment by Chuang Liu on October 21, 2014 at 12:13

Today, I went to Wildwood Lake and tried to paint a good picture. At beginning, the reeds was my first focal point. I also wanted to show the beautiful fall season. Too many things I wanted to focus on, then nothing became important.

Thank you so much, Michael. Now I understand where is the problem.

Very good Chuang.   You have massed in your trees a lot better with this painting ...A word on composition:  You have a reverse "C" composition or possible an "O".  The 2 spots for a focal point are where the C shape turns right and the other at the end.  You have 2 prominent trees at both these sites. ......make one of them the focal point.  Now, to complete the "Travel of the eye" within your "O" composition, paint a few of those reeds so they connect with your right tree reflection.  Now your eye goes from the lower right corner ..around the C and back down the reflection to the patch of reeds  and then back around the journey again.  But do emphasize one of those trees as your focal point ..make it more interesting then anything else in the painting.....take us there and give us something to look at as our reward for taking the journey.  :))
