Thank you Richard, I was not aware of the flattening effect.
The other truth here is that I used charcoal and corrected my drawing so often that I had a lot of black on the canvas. When painting the black outline was not intentional but I did welcome it and left it as I thought it helped to separate the gull from the background. Thank you for the advice!
Nice one Gunther. Beware of outlining your subject because it flattens it.
Adorable!
Hi Mairo, thank you for your nice and elaborate comments. I am very conscious of my learning curve and only lately I have more courage with the brushwork. There was only one seagull on the beach and it flew away when I tried to get nearer. I was disappointed but after this workshop I know that the frozen take of scene would also make a good picture. Workshop - well I have tagged this with workshop58 so we see what happens. Anyway I have painted for the fun of it .
This is such an endearing portrait. I really like your colour palette; they render a very creative and interesting effect. I also really like the lively brushwork of the shallow wave. It gives such a sense of movement and creates an interesting contrast with the very compsed Gull. It's a real pity that you didn't enter the workshop with this imaginative version.
Oh dear, thank you Aurelia, thank you Jon. I really appreciate your encouragement.
As Aurelia says the 'softness' (brushwork/atmosphere) is really effective. Good one!
Very nice painting. I like the "softness" of it.
Thanks Eibhlin, it is from a walk along the beach close to Renvyle. We have friends there. Do you live in the west or east?
...yes I know too late for this workshop - but inspired by it.
