Yes, I commented below that the colour rendition in the photo is quite inaccurate and is quite different to the actual painting. I should have made sure I got the photo right.

In truth the background is indeed a bit cooler and more neutral and the water isn't so yellow. It's not blue either - but a bit more greenish, it's shallow water with plenty of the algae that these birds seem to like shuffling around in. The water is really also a bit more contrasty. The dark is a bit darker and the light patch is a bit brighter, with light bouncing off the water and catching a damp patch on the tip of his bill - which also we can't see very well here.

Sigh! Digital photography is a great thing and I wouldn't be without it but it causes me so much frustration when the colours don't come out right (probably my own fault).

The log and Spoonbill are soooo ! beautifully painted. I would like to see deep blue in the water and a cooler neutral for the background. Amazing bird painting Lawrence

Should have paid more attention to the colour rendition in the photo. The water is way too yellow and the background is too red.
