Revisited this painting today after 12 months and put some extra layering on the bird to pop him from the background a little more.

Beautiful work Diane
Hi Diane, yes we will be in the old town , so will be visiting galleries etc for sure.
I do hope to catch up with Richard while back also.
I will endeavor to do some painting while in the North and lots of photo referencing .
so much to see and do !
Looking forward to Whangarei Heads.....old stomping ground for us .
Perhaps I will meet you ?
Thank you Mario. I under painted the bird in those colours. Then 12 months later felt he needed a little more to pop him from the background so used a pallet knife in the same colours and applied more paint.
Thank you also to Siobhan and Mark for your comments. Mark if you are coming back to stay in Whangarei there is quite a lively organization CAN, (community arts northland) operating with premises in town where you can sell your artwork from.
I really like your brush work on the branch and in the feathers along with the wonderful colours that you have used.
Back to NZ in March .....I will bring my Tui with me....ex Whangarei , so sure to see a couple of these shimmering beauties.....great job Diane...love the back ground to.
You are lucky, beautiful birds!
Thanks Cristina These are my favourite of our native bird species here in NZ and we have them visiting in our trees in the garden nearly every day.
Lovely!
