Very beautiful Susan! Love the range of colours you've managed to get in there and all the organic shapes - very rich. Feel like that main tree needs a touch more nature put into it - it looks just a little man-made at the moment. Maybe it's just those two big diagonal slashes of foliage? Picky, I know. Love it though.

I liked it very good!

Thanks for your comments Dolores.  I'm still struggling with trees, too.  They are tricky critters.  I think I will try to cast the spotlight a little more on the tree on the right by toning down the other mid-ground trees a bit. Happy painting.

Oh my gosh! I just made a comment on the first version and then immediately found this one. Ignore my other comments. This takes care of them. Wonderful difference!

Wow, huge difference between this and the first version. What ever you did worked beautifully. Doesn't even look like the same painting. The darkened foreground really does lead the eye back into the work.

good job susan...the darkened foreground leads the eye back to the golden bank and the glorious trees! I missed the first version but this is lovely!

Thanks for your constructive comment Otto - I will fix the shadows around the rocks. Strangely it doesn't look that obvious on the painting but really stands out in the photograph.

Susan,  Yes a masterful improvement over the first version.  You've also improved the notan.  Your color choices are beautiful and harmonious.  The only thing I can see that would make any type of major improvement is the two large stones at the lower-left have dark "corona's" almost entirely around them at the water line (a bit distracting and not quite natural looking).  You've got my vote on "Golden Afternoon ... "

Great job.

My workshop painting was looking very blah. Not in the slightest the golden afternoon I was aiming for. I watched Richard's 'spotlighting' video again this morning and took it to heart. A bit of glazing and highlighting seems to make a world of difference.
