Hi Nancy

So glad to meet you and see this lovely work of art.  What I like most are the  mountains in the sky.  The colors are lovely and make feel the height of those mountains!

Thank you, Casey. I wish that were true. I never know for sure how a painting will evolve. Even the Notans and practices didn't seem to show up on the canvas. Each painting seems to take on a life of its own.

You paint with such confidence - I can feel the cold in this one.

Thank you, Stu.  I always seem to be doing that.  I like your idea about turning it into a black and white photo.  That really should reveal a great deal.  Simplifying is something I have a hard time doing as well.  I seem to want to paint everything I see.  I don't have Photo Shop so I will check out gimp.com.  I know everyone in this workshop really appreciates your expertise and helpful hints...I know I do.

Nancy, it really is an ongoing process. I like your style very much as well. This painting really works at drawing the eye up along the river and into the distant mountains. What I do when I try to fix things is convert it to black and white and fix any values first and then tweak the colors. Also, I try and only do small fixes, one at a time until I get it right. Often the best fix is to take something out that is not needed in the painting; unfortunately, I usually have a hard time doing that; simplification is not easy for me. If you don't have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to turn it into a value study then google gimp.com; they have a free program that does most of that stuff. Stu

Thank you, Stu.  I will give it another look.  I'm still fussing and will give your sugestions a try.  It's all such an ongoing process, isn't it?

Nancy, nice painting. I like it. If you are still "fussing with it", take a look at the peak that is the second frOm the right. The yellow in the snow reads wrong with you sky color and the snow on the other peaks. If it's direct warm sunlight, you need some on the snow on the other peaks also. Should be an easy fix. Stu

Thank you all.  I am still fussing with it and am not sure I'm improving it.  Think I'll leave it alone and move on.
